Cedarwood Kennels has been raising and training Labradors since the late 1970's. With more than twenty years of experience, we are pleased our program has produced AKC Champions, Master Hunters, Obedience, Agility, Therapy/Service Dogs and most importantly fine family and hunting companions.
We have focused our program on producing the versatile retriever. Our primary objective is to produce a healthy Labrador with a sound temperament and demonstrated trainability. We believe that conformation and function are a combination. Performance and breed standard combined with health and temperament produces the optimum Labrador for a breeding program. We prefer puppies to go to family or hunting homes and do not encourage clients to breed their dogs. In a few instances we have produced foundation bitches for other Labrador enthusiasts. We believe in a strong bitch line and do not hesitate to purchase either a dog or bitch that will compliment our present program.
Cedarwood Kennels has developed a breeding program with a multipurpose focus.

Although performance, health and structural soundness of parents do not guarantee the offspring, there is a greater chance of improving or maintaining positive traits in the Labrador thru selective, conscientious breeding practices. All Cedarwood breeding stock are:
Development of the foundation dams include breed showing, hunting tests, obedience and therapy work. Litters are planned well in advance. The stud dog is selected to improve or enhance the dams' characteristics. Soundness, temperament and proven trainability are essential traits for the stud dogs selected to be used in our program.

Litters are whelped in our home, living the first critical weeks with their dam; well supervised by me. At about four weeks of age puppies are moved to a large exercise area with ramps, steps, toys, and a sleeping area. Puppies are exposed to loud noises, bird wings and children. Personalities begin to develop and the litter order is established during this time.

To further assist us in evaluating the litter, a temperament test is performed at about the pups' seventh week of age. This test includes evaluating responses to:
